Welcome to the Fellowship application portal for California Climate Action Corps (CCAC)! We are thrilled to have you here.

CCAC is an AmeriCorps service program and part of a California statewide initiative to address and mitigate the effects of climate change. This climate-focused workforce development program matches Fellows with organizations to mobilize community members to take direct climate action through education, volunteer mobilization, and assessment focused on urban greening, wildfire resiliency, and organic waste diversion and edible food recovery. CCAC trains and supports Fellows throughout the program to emerge as climate and civic leaders, while helping organizations implement projects to advance climate action that engages community members, cultivates change, and leaves a lasting impact.

CCAC is currently accepting applications for one upcoming term from February 3 – September 12, 2025. This is a general application for Fellowships with CCAC, but applicants can select up to 5 preferred positions in the application. After submitting an application, all candidates must attend a mandatory information session to advance in the process and be eligible for interviews.

ESSAY QUESTION

As a Fellow with California Climate Action Corps, you will be placed with one of our Host Partner organizations to drive impactful climate action initiatives focused on urban greening, wildfire resiliency, and/or edible food rescue and organic waste recovery.

Program Eligibility and Requirements

AGE REQUIREMENT

Will be at least 18 years of age by December 31, 2024?

UNITED STATES EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY

Are you a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident?

As an Americorps program, it is mandatory for all Fellows to be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.

Please note that currently, we are unable to accept applicants with student visas (e.g., F1 or F2 student visas, J1 or J2 exchange visitor visas, G series visas, etc.) or individuals with deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status. If offered a position within the program, all Fellows will be required to provide documentation as proof of their status.

TIME COMMITMENT

If selected for the Fellowship, can you commit to serving 40-hours per week, in-person for the full 7.5 month (1200-hour) service term from February 3 – September 12, 2025?

STIPEND DISCLOSURE

California Climate Action Corps provides a modest living stipend throughout your service term. Fellows will receive a $23,712 stipend (before taxes), distributed evenly over 7.5 months with payments issued every two weeks. We recognize that living within this budget in California can present challenges.

LOCATION REQUIREMENT

You must live in California prior to the start of the term; however, California State Residency is not a requirement of the program.

CRIMINAL HISTORY/AGREEMENT

Applicants offered a position with California Climate Action Corps must complete a federal background check, as well as clear the National Sex Offender Public Register search prior to the start of their first service day. Acceptance into the program is contingent upon results from the checks.

Additionally, applicants are not officially AmeriCorps Fellows and cannot begin their service, log hours, or receive their stipend until results from ALL checks have been returned and reviewed. Fellows will be reimbursed for the cost of the DOJ/FBI fingerprinting processing. The time frame for receiving results varies, typically 1-4 weeks.

Candidates are ineligible to serve within the California Climate Action Corps if they are registered, or required to be registered, as a sex offender; have been convicted of murder; or those who have major felony convictions.

TB HEALTH SCREENING

In accordance with California state regulations, individuals working with children/youth are required to undergo an annual tuberculin (TB) test. While not all host organizations mandate this, if your position necessitates it, the Host Partner staff will support you in finding a free or low-cost clinic where you can obtain the TB test.

To be eligible for the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Age Requirement: Fellows must be 18 years of age or older.
Citizenship or Residency: Fellows must be either a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
Documentation: Applicants are required to provide legal, government-issued documentation to verify their citizenship or residency status.

Please be prepared to submit one of the following documents from Column A, B, or C within 7 business days of accepting an offer letter. We receive a high volume of applications, and failure to meet the deadline will result in disqualification.

Program Orientation

The program is scheduled to commence on February 3, 2025 as the official start date. It is mandatory for all Fellows to participate in a virtual orientation via Zoom from February 3 – 4, 2025. Further information regarding the orientation and other specifics will be provided upon acceptance into the Program.
