Welcome

Welcome to the Fellowship application portal for California Climate Action Corps!

California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is an AmeriCorps service program that’s part of a California statewide initiative to address and mitigate the effects of climate change. This climate-focused workforce development program places Fellows with organizations across California to engage communities in taking real, hands-on climate action. Through education, volunteer mobilization, and community events, Fellows help drive progress in 3 key focus areas:

  • Urban Greening: Expanding green spaces to cool neighborhoods, improve air quality, and create healthier, more climate-resilient communities through projects like tree planting, community gardens, and native landscaping.

  • Wildfire Resiliency: Protecting homes, schools, and natural areas by reducing fire risk—teaching traditional Indigenous burning practices, supporting home hardening efforts, and organizing fuel reduction projects.

  • Organic Waste Diversion: Preventing methane emissions by reducing organic waste in landfills through edible food recovery and building local composting systems that turn food scraps into climate solutions.

Together, Fellows and their host organizations are building more resilient communities across California.

We are currently accepting applications for 400 positions in the 2026-27 CCAC Fellowship: September 21, 2026 – August 13, 2027. Applications are open May 1 - July 31, 2026, with priority consideration given to applicants who both apply and attend a CCAC info session by June 19, 2026. Interviews will take place May-August, with all positions filled by September 4, 2026.

The application is for the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship as a whole; however, applicants may select up to 5 preferred positions within the application. After submitting an application, all candidates must attend a mandatory info session to be eligible for interview consideration. If you’re ready to move forward in the recruitment process—or simply want to learn more about the program—we encourage you to register for an info session today.

Applicants offered a position with the California Climate Action Corps must complete a California Department of Justice and FBI background check, as well as clear the National Sex Offender Public Registry search prior to the start of their first service day. Acceptance into the program is contingent upon results from these background checks.

Additionally, applicants are not officially AmeriCorps Fellows and cannot begin their service, log hours, or receive their stipend until results from ALL checks have been returned and reviewed. Fellows will be reimbursed for the cost of the DOJ/FBI fingerprinting processing. The time frame for receiving results varies, typically 1-4 weeks.

Candidates are ineligible to serve with the California Climate Action Corps if they have any felony convictions within the past 5 years. Additionally, candidates are ineligible to serve with any prior convictions for violent crimes, child molestation, or sex offenses.

TB HEALTH SCREENING
In accordance with California state regulations, individuals working with children/youth are required to undergo an annual tuberculosis (TB) test. While not all host organizations mandate this, if your position necessitates it, you will be notified during the onboarding process, and the host partner staff staff will support you in finding a free or low-cost clinic where you can obtain the TB test.
